FINALLY...
After 5 months of waiting, paying bills and dreaming too much I was able to collect my Black-Bird today!

Happy to be in the saddle once again

Denis - the owner of Moto91 having a quick pose

I was a nice ride home - the long way round - taking things nice and easy while I run her in again.

With nearly 1'500 km on the clock - I think I'll be ready to fully test the BB-Kit when I reach 2'000 km!

Looks like it was well worth the wait. You have created one sharp looking Tbird. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts about the new ride.

Thanks everyone!

Phoned up work today to inform them that I'm sick - sick of not having ridden my Bird enough!
So I'm off for the day to potter around.

Yeah - I only wore them yesterday - it was easier to wipe off the drool rather than jeans

Bout time !!!! Can't wait to hear your BB impressions. by the way, i didn't realize you got the dual lights....i thought those pics were just what they did to one of thier Tbirds, not yours.
Put on those miles and lets hear how you like the kit !

WOW.... I went for a 200 km (125 miles) ride yesterday, up and over a couple of passes.
All I can say is - I was in love from the moment I twisted the throttle to start the journey!

The previous night I had watched the film The Motorcycle Diaries and I simply had the urge yesterday to just set-off and ride....
Forget the 'planning to perfection', 'The next tank station', 'where would I be for lunch', 'x hours before evening traffic', etc. Just ride! IT WAS GREAT!

I ended up going over the 'Passwang'. This is a road that climbs to over 3'000 feet a.s.l. and was built from 1931 to 1933. It's a spectacular road - especially on the North side where the road simply turns and goes into a tunnel in a rock-face! Sorry but I didn't get any photos from this side. I then turned back and went over the 'Saalhoehe'. There's still rather a lot of snow around, which in turns means there is often cold/freezing water from the melting snow, running over the roads... And this is nearly ALWAYS in the corners and in the shade!!!

Anyway - here's some impressions:
(I'll upload some videos later - as I can't do it from the office)

Passwang
Here's a movie NOT FROM ME

Saalhoehe

So what can I say? I'm not much of a story teller - but I can sum-up a few points:

- After over 2 hours in the saddle, I didn't feel like I had to get off! Sooooo comfortable.
- Once the motor was nice and warm, I did twist the throttle a little firmer - only to slide back on the seat AND HAVE MY FEET LIFT OFF THE PEGS - NO BULL SHIT!!!
- The Teardrop mirrors vibrate at lower speed! Could this be the mirror model or is the the additional vibes from the BB-Kit? It's yours to guess.
- The Sound is so so so sweet! I really DO NOT understand people who want to wear an iPod when you have this sound under you.
- At all but 2 pedestrian crossings (fussgaenger-streifen) that I stopped at, the people shout out "NICE BIKE... LOOKS GREAT"
- In the passes I do tend to scrape!
- Those twin lamps look as sexy as hell when in the saddle! You feel wider and more 'HERE I AM' kind of thing (imho)
- With the TT-Bar I can see the indicator lenses now - helping remind me they are switched on when they flash. (I know it has self canceling)
- A HD Fat Bob was in front of me coming down the South side of Passwang - Those things have ZERO lean angle in comparison to the Bird! It became boring following him so slow around the corners!

------

Since then:
- The bird needs a little 'blip' on the throttle to start.
- I need more time to ride....

Will get more pictures and post some videos up tonight.

..... right - where's my helmet? I'm off!

Congrats Birdy glad you got back on the bike ... and what a place to ride.

Told you about that new found torque. It will pull you right off the bike. I just had my post kit service done so I'm hoping to get out this weekend and try and tear the throttle off and see just what I bought.

Quick comment on the issue of lean. First off, way to get on it! Second, I've not replaced my pegs this time and I'm much happier. I'm into the nut or base of the peg at this point but I generally don't scrape at all any more. Only on slow 90 degree turns where I'm really dropping it over. I'm leaving them be I think. I did look for something like a nylon 'slider' to use instead but I couldn't find anything. Just thought you might like to know.

I'm right there with you on the ipod issue. I love to just hear the exhaust as I power in and out of the corners. To hell with any music covering that up.

Now it's time for me to grab my helmet and be off to work.

Cheers!

Great photos, Birdy and a lovely bike. I'd be interested to hear after you ride in the dark whether you think you have better lighting now with two headlamps rather than the one original.

Honestly said - I can't remember how it was before! Seriously!
Fact is I handed my bike in to the garage last October/November - and collected her last Wednesday.
I did ride home in the dark on Thursday night. I was happy with the amount I could see - BUT REALLY HAPPY when I turned onto main beam (high beam) - it was like being in a football stadion!

Well - I'm up to 2'000 km well, 1'970 km to be exact! So I'm off to the garage to get a new filter and oil so I can do the oil change this afternoon!

Will keep you posted.

Well as I have said in another thread, I am now laid-up with an ice bag on my knee!!!
No riding for a day or two!

I've over strained my ligament - Doooh!
5 months of no riding - no real exercising, then BAMMM - 2 solid days of cruising 500+ km and my knee said "Hang on - I want a rest!"

You saw the pictures from the first day - Passwang.
Well here are some from the second day with SPECTACULAR weather!

And I managed to catch this before it was too late:

What an excellent year!

I could bend the knee this morning!
That's all I needed to make the decision to ride to work Once I'm rolling it's fine. The problem is when I have the foot on the ground and try to lift/swing it forward to the pegs! The ligament says "HELL NO!" But it worked this morning... Hope I can make it home tonight

I use my mobile phone - Sony Ericsson C905 - most of the time. It has a nice 8.1 mega pixel camera and GPS built in.
The latest photos from the past couple of days were actually made with the companies camera - a Sony Ericsson DSC-H7, also 8.1 mega pixel.

Right - I'm off to exchange the ice bag again

Birdy......that's a sweet looking ride. Nice to see you big bore guys getting some miles on them.

Quick question.....I notice you have a fork bag on your bike. Have you noticed if the fender bumps into it when the forks compress? And if so, is it scuffing the fender?

Yes & Yes :-(

I have placed some clear film just under the bag - you don't really see it. But I intend to get a slightly smaller bag and will be getting a fresh new custom paint job at the end of the season.
So that's why I'm not too gutted about the fine scuff marks.

Hmmm. Great idea with the clear film. Maybe I'll look for a small bag as well.

Thanks for the pics!!! I don't have my bike out of storage yet so I have to ride through you guys.

I use a company called duco scratch
They make full kits for nearly every model bike. here is a link
when you purchase it it comes with
a how to DVD , squeegee and and the kit
it is fantastic stuff,i had a sprint with it on it and had the bike dropped it looked like i needed a paint job to fix it
but after i peeled the film off (levees no residue) you couldn't tell it had been dropped.
